Cream Productions names John Ealer senior production exec

The producer has a long history with Cream, with credits including their CNN original titles The History of the Sitcom and The Story of Late Night.

Toronto-based prodco Cream Productions has hired veteran producer, showrunner, cinematographer and director John Ealer for the role of senior production executive.

In his new position, Ealer (pictured) will run point on a slate of productions from development to delivery, supervising showrunners while executive producing a number of projects for major networks. He will report directly to Cream Productions CEO David Brady and president Kate Harrison.

Ealer has a deep history with Cream, having served as showrunner, director and head writer on the prodco’s premium CNN titles The History of the Sitcom and The Story of Late Night. Ealer is already working across several priority titles, including an unannounced series for ABC.

With more than two decades of experience, Ealer has numerous TV credits with a range of networks and streamers. He was previously producer and director across the second and third seasons of Netflix’s Roman Empire, and also produced, directed and wrote AMC’s The Making of the Mob and The American West, the latter of which was executive produced by Robert Redford. He also directed and produced The Men Who Built America: Frontiersmen, executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio.

“John is among the most diversified, respected and ambitious production executives in the business,” said Brady in a release. “A longtime collaborator with Cream, he already knows our business and brand and identifies with our values and vision for what’s next.”
