Canadian Academy’s Quebec section reveals board changes

Karine Dubois and Antonello Cozzolino have been elected, while Odile Méthot and Laurence Deschênes-Tremblay have been appointed as the board restructures.

The board of directors for the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television – Quebec Section (the Academy) has announced four new members — two elected and two appointed — as well as a restructuring.

The newly elected members are Picbois Productions founder and president Karine Dubois (pictured far left) and Attraction producer Antonello Cozzolino (pictured middle left).

The newly appointed members are Odile Méthot (pictured middle right), former president and CEO of the French-language program of the Harold Greenberg Fund, and emerging producer Laurence Deschênes-Tremblay (pictured far right).

Dubois was elected as a member in television and Cozzolino was elected for cinema. They’ll sit on the board started in January with a commitment to rallying members of the industry, serving the interests of the Academy and its members, and valuing and promoting the industry’s diversity of talent with transparency, according to a news release.

Dubois has been producing documentaries for 15 years, both locally and internationally. Her most recent television productions include Nomades à moto, Enquêtes incendies, Seuls and Trafic. She sat on the board of directors of the Femmes du cinéma, de la télévision et des médias numériques (FCTMN) association from 2010 to 2016, including three years as president.

Cozzolino has been producing feature films and TV series for over 12 years with Attraction, on titles such as Mafia Inc., 14 jours 12 nuits, L’Arracheuse de temps, and Le temps d’un été.

Méthot has many years of experience managing certified independent production funds for film and television, with investments totalling nearly $55 million in more than 1,500 audiovisual work projects. In 2018, she received a tribute award from FCTMN.

Deschênes-Tremblay is an appointed member for the Relève headquarters and has produced award-winning short films including Filme-moi and l’Abat. She also founded Les Productions Gaspard, which specializes in music videos, and this year joined the Productions Sovimage team as a development producer.

The board composition has been restructured to include one appointed chairperson; five appointed directors representing broadcasters; and three appointed directors for producers in the film, television and digital media sectors.

The board is rounded out by three administrators for artisans — one elected by the members and two appointed by the board; five directors elected by the members — with two in cinema, two in television and one in digital media; one appointed successor director (all sectors combined); and two appointed director-advisors.

The restructure is intended to adhere to “the rules of good governance with an executive committee (president, VP, treasurer, secretary) and administrators,” said the release.

Of the 20 administrator positions, 19 are currently filled, including recently appointed president Caroline Gaudette and VP Bruno Dubé. Gaudette will succeed Sophie Deschênes, president and producer at Productions Sovimage, in January.
