Cineflix Productions teams up with Gladys Knight

The partnership between Cineflix and the Grammy Award-winning singer and producer is to develop a scripted miniseries based on her life and career.

Seven-time Grammy Award-winning singer and producer Gladys Knight is set to pull back the curtain on her life in a miniseries with Cineflix Productions.

Cineflix announced a partnership with Knight and her Empress of Soul Productions on Wednesday (Nov. 30) to develop a premium scripted miniseries based on her life and five-decade-long career.

Executive producers will include Knight, William McDowell, Joyce Miller Roy, William Bickley, Carl Buehl, Brian Bird, and Camille Tucker for Empress of Soul Productions; and J.C. Mills, Sherri Rufh, and Jeff Vanderwal for Cineflix Productions, which has production and development hubs in Toronto and New York.

The Georgia-born artist known as the Empress of Soul formed the legendary group Gladys Knight & The Pips with her brother Bubba, sister Brenda, and two cousins. Their hits included I Heard It Through the Grapevine, If I Were Your Woman and Midnight Train to Georgia. Knight went on to put out more than 38 albums, earning scores of honours including an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

In a statement, Knight said despite her age of 78, she has no plans to retire and is “just getting started.”

“All my life I’ve been able to sing my stories. I can now use this opportunity to show the meaning behind the words,” she said. “Our partnership with Cineflix, sharing my life story, will allow me to leave a legacy of hard work and dedication. That alone is greater than any award I could ever receive. It’s important to leave large footprints that go in the right direction. That’s why Empress of Soul Productions was founded.”
