Caroline Gaudette to head Canadian Academy Quebec board

The Version 10 founder takes on the role of president while Sphere Media head Bruno Dubé becomes VP, as Sophie Deschênes ends her term as board president.

The Quebec section of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (Canadian Academy) has appointed Version 10 Productions founder Caroline Gaudette as president of its board of directors, and Sphere Media president and CEO Bruno Dubé as VP.

Gaudette (pictured right) will succeed outgoing board president Sophie Deschênes, who heads Sovimage Productions. As board chair, Gaudette will help advance the organization’s mission to highlight the talent and creativity of screen artists and creators, according to a news release.

Both Gaudette and Dubé (pictured left) will assume their new positions on the board beginning in January.

Deschênes is winding down a four-year term contributing to the growth and renewal of the Canadian Academy’s Quebec branch. She helped develop several projects during her tenure, including promoting and supporting the next generation of artists by setting up the Prix Gémeaux prize and relaunching scholarships.

Gaudette is president of Montreal-based Version 10 and has produced nearly 100 digital projects in the television and film sectors, with recent titles including the series Géolocaliser l’amour. She’s been involved with the Canadian Academy for four years, sat on its board of directors, and was on the Grand Jury for the Gémeaux awards for the past two years. She’s also a director on the board of Quebec producers’ association AQPM.

In a statement, Deschênes praised Gaudette’s passion for the industry, noting she’ll “be able to breathe new life into the Academy” through its projects.

Dubé has guided Sphere into becoming one of the largest independent production houses in Canada, according to the academy release, with an award-winning portfolio including Noovo’s Aller simple, CTV’s Transplant, and CBC’s Sort Of and The Porter.

The Canadian Academy said it is now looking to elect two new members of the board for the Quebec office — one working in cinema and another working in television.
