Bleecker Street sets output deal with levelFILM

The agreement will see Toronto's levelFILM handling Canadian distribution for Bleecker Street's North American titles beginning in 2023.

Toronto-based distributor levelFILM has inked an exclusive output deal with New York studio Bleecker Street.

The deal, announced during the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday (Sept. 1), will see levelFILM handle Canadian distribution for any films of which Bleecker Street holds North American or worldwide rights.

The first title to be distributed by levelFILM under the agreement is the comedy Mafia Mamma, directed by Catherine Hardwicke and starring Toni Collette and Monica Bellucci, which is set for release in 2023, according to a news release.

The companies have previously partnered on distribution for a number of titles, including Emma Holly Jones’ Mr. Malcolm’s List (pictured), Kitty Green’s The Assistant and Mona Fastvold’s The World to Come.

The deal was negotiated by Bleecker Street’s Kent Sanderson alongside Avy Eschenasy, as well as levelFILM’s John Bain and Dave Hudakoc.

Upcoming Bleecker Street titles include the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) world premiere Emily, directed by Frances O’Connor; What Happens Later, directed by and starring Meg Ryan; Academy Award winner Guy Nattiv’s Golda; and Alice Troughton’s The Tutor. Meanwhile, levelFILM had the world premiere of Lindsay MacKay’s The Swearing Jar at TIFF on Sunday (Sept. 11).
