crew-karine-1Toronto-based prodco Sinking Ship Entertainment (SSE) has expanded its distribution team with Karine Rubin as its new director of sales for Europe.

According to a news release, Rubin (pictured) will report to sales and distribution heads Kate Sanagan and Marilyn Kynaston and be responsible for the company’s sales efforts throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Rubin has over 15 years of experience, most recently as Tokyo-based Toei Animation’s film sales manager. She had earlier stints with Gulli and Fremantle in France.

Past international deals for SSE across Europe, the Middle East and Africa include German pubcaster Hessischer Rundfunk, and free-to-air television channel KiKa for Odd Squad, which was also picked up by France Television, U.K. television channel CBBC and South Africa’s online streaming service Showmax. CBBC and Showmax have also acquired Endlings.

In a statement, Sanagan noted Rubin’s experience and skills are an excellent match for the rest of the team as it grows its brands across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Meanwhile, upcoming projects include Builder Brothers’ Dream Factory, in partnership with Scott Brothers Entertainment, and the series, Jane, coproduced with the Jane Goodall Institute.
