Love Nature, the Washington, D.C.-headquartered natural history and wildlife content joint venture from Blue Ant Media and Smithsonian Networks, has greenlit a new series that delves into how animals are adapting to our changing planet.
Evolution Earth (5 x 50 minutes), produced by Passion Planet, is a natural history coproduction with PBS and Arte. Blue Ant International is overseeing pre-sales and licensing outside of the commissioning territories.
David Allen, director of Passion Planet, is a series producer alongside Oliver Twinch. James Manfull executive produces the series on behalf of Love Nature, while Bill Gardner is the executive in charge for PBS, and Hélène Coldefy serves as executive producer for Arte.
The project will debut on Love Nature’s global linear and streaming platforms, as well as on Sky Nature in the U.K. and Italy. Evolution Earth will also premiere in the U.S. on PBS and via Arte in France and Germany.
Shot in extreme locations around the world, Evolution Earth seeks to illustrate the rapid pace of change happening on Earth while highlighting nature’s ability to persist and thrive amid bigger storms, longer droughts and warming oceans. The series also discusses how humans may need to adapt to global climate changes as well.
The series is made up of five films, each showcasing a different landscape — Earth, islands, ice, heat and grasslands — and is carried by a conversational though investigative style of narration similar to a podcast. The approach is designed to keep audiences engaged, said Love Nature global general manager Carlyn Staudt.
