Sphere Animation, Red Monk partner on witchy tale Nadia

The 52 x 11-minute series is targeted to kids up to age nine and highlights the importance of intergenerational relationships.

Sphere Animation has partnered with Italy’s Red Monk Studio to develop kid-focused animated series Nadia.

The 52 x 11-minute series is created by Italian illustrator Caterina Cappelli and is targeted at kids aged from “upper preschool to nine.” Sphere Animation, formerly Sardine Productions, and Red Monk Studio will coproduce the series.

The story follows nine-year-old Nadia, a witch who highlights the importance of intergenerational relationships between women with her mentor Agatha.

Nadia will be presented at the market at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, which begins June 13. The project marks the first animated original production from Red Monk.

The partnership has allowed the two studios to “access exceptional creative talent,” according to Ghislain Cyr, SVP original content animation and producer at Sphere Animation.

Red Monk Studio is a copro partner with Toronto’s First Generation Films on the live-action series Home Sweet Rome, recently commissioned for HBO Max.
