Boat Rocker is set to diversify its content slate through the financing and distribution of premium documentaries.
The first of these projects is Le Bal Paris, a feature-length documentary set to be produced by Boat Rocker-owned production company Maven. Lisa Immordino Vreeland (Love, Cecil) is tapped to direct the doc, which will give a behind-the-scenes look at the prestigious debutante ball in Paris featuring teenage girls from around the world.
The documentary is set to be produced by Immordino Vreeland, Maven’s Jessica Sebastian-Dayeh, Leila Mattimore, Le Bal Paris organizer Ophélie Renouard and Paper Magazine‘s Mickey Boardman. Boat Rocker will handle global distribution.
Le Bal Paris will follow high-profile teens from countries across the world, including Italy, Germany, India, China, the U.S., Norway, Hungary, Kazakhstan and Indonesia as they prepare for the first ball since the pandemic hit, taking place on Nov. 26.
“Financing premium documentaries is an essential pillar for delivering on our promise to leading talent that Boat Rocker is the home for creative visionaries to remain independent, while succeeding creatively and commercially,” said Boat Rocker Media president Michel Pratte in a statement. “The unprecedented demand for premium documentaries has led us to expand our investment past just development and into independently financing documentaries with undeniably unique stories that, as finished products, have extremely high value in today’s competitive marketplace.”
“We’re thrilled to be producing Le Bal Paris with our talented partners and look forward to providing viewers a glimpse into a world few ever see, with a fresh, modern story,” added Jay Peterson, president, Boat Rocker, unscripted. “Given our experience producing documentary content targeted at younger viewers, including Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry, and our upcoming documentary for HBO Sports about the recent Bishop Sycamore football scandal, we’re well positioned to effectively tell this fascinating story.”
Boat Rocker Studios recently merged its scripted and unscripted divisions into Boat Rocker Studios, TV. The unscripted division included Maven, Toronto prodcos Proper Television and Insight Productions, as well as New York-based Matador Content. The company’s recent scripted commissions include Slip for Roku and Robyn Hood for Corus Entertainment’s Global.
