The Canada Media Fund (CMF) has selected 39 production companies for the first round of its Slate Development Pilot Program.
The $3 million program was launched in late 2021 to give documentary and children’s and youth producers access to up to $75,000 in development funding without the use of a broadcaster.
The program requires producers to have received development or production funds for kids or documentary programming from the CMF within the last few years. Producers must also have reported a minimum of $75,000 in gross sales for whichever genre they applied for within the last five years to be eligible.
Six prodcos were selected for English-language children’s and youth programs, including Boat Rocker Media, Sinking Ship Entertainment, Breakthrough Film & Television, Apartment 11 Productions, GAPC Entertainment and Six Eleven Media.
Five were picked for French-language children’s and youth programming, including Les Productions Passez Go, Trio Orange, Productions KOTV, Slalom Productions and Téléfiction Productions.
A total of 20 companies received development funds for English-language documentary programming. Among them are Thunderbird Entertainment, Entertainment One, Omni Entertainment, EyeSteelFilm, Noble Television, Infield Fly Productions, Media Headquarters Film & Television, White Pine Pictures, Boxer Four Entertainment, Merit Motion Pictures, Peg Leg Films, Kensington Communications, WAM Media, Curious Features, Lark Productions, Sunday Night Entertainment, Tell Tale Productions, 90th Parallel Productions, Peacock Alley Entertainment and Downstream Documentary Productions.
An additional eight companies picked up funding for French-language docs, including Idéacom International, PVP MEDIA, Productions Pixcom, Zone3, Productions Nova Média, Gestion Avanti Ciné Vidéo, Sphère Média and Attraction Images.
