Deals: Attraction, Incendo, Vortex

Attraction Distribution and ALSO Productions ink sales for The Sketch Artist, Incendo and Rainmaker Content announce distribution partnership, plus more.

Montreal-based Attraction Distribution has sold Canadian crime series The Sketch Artist in a number of key territories. The thriller, produced by ALSO Productions, will have a remake in France under a new deal with Paris-based Oble TV and has secured ready-to-air rights to SBS (Australia), Lumiere (Benelux), BookMyShow (India), Globo (Brazil) and GSN for Scandinavia.

The show about a young forensic sketch artist launched on the Club illico streaming platform in spring 2021 and has aired on TVA since the beginning of this year. It’s been greenlit for a second season. Attraction holds international distribution rights.

Incendo, Rainmaker Content 

Montreal-based Incendo has partnered with London-based Rainmaker Content to oversee the sales and distribution of its programming in Canada. The first Canadian linear sale under the collaboration is the new espionage drama series Professionals starring Tom Welling, Brendan Fraser and Elena Anaya. It will launch in Canada sometime this year on CHCH TV, after being picked up by The CW in the U.S. Professionals is a production of Most Media, Subotica, Spier Films and Roadside Attractions in association with Jeff Most Productions, LEONINE Studios, NENT Group and The Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa.

Vortex Media

Toronto-based boutique studio Vortex Media has sold the U.S./U.K./Ireland rights on Canadian actor Mark O’Brien’s directorial debut The Righteous to London-based distributor Arrow Films. Vortex Media will release the psychological horror theatrically and on digital in Canada in the summer, with Arrow Films picking up the home entertainment release for Canada. Arrow Films also plans to release the film on digital in the U.K., the U.S. and Ireland this summer. A deluxe collector’s edition Blu-ray is planned for the U.K., U.S., Canada and Ireland.

The story of “a burdened man who feels the wrath of a vengeful God” was shot in black and white and premiered at last year’s Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, where it won the Cheval Noir and Silver Award. O’Brien (61st Street, Marriage Story) also wrote and stars alongside Henry Czerny (Ready or Not, Mission Impossible) and Mimi Kuzyk (The Day After Tomorrow, The Final Cut). The Righteous was produced by Mark O’Neill and Allison White. Executive producers are Marc Hamou, Walter Lawlor, David Miller and O’Brien. The deal was negotiated by Franceso Simeoni at Arrow Films and Justin Rebelo at Vortex Media.

Autodesk

Montreal-headquartered Autodesk Entertainment & Media Solutions has acquired New Zealand-based platform Moxion Cloud Solution, which allows on-set production professionals to collaborate and review camera footage in real-time using the cloud. Autodesk says the acquisition of the platform, which has been used by productions including The Matrix Resurrections and Shadow and Bone, will offer a more efficient workflow and increased collaboration for its clients in both on-set production and post-production. Autodesk specializes in 3D design, engineering and entertainment software.
