Principal photography has wrapped in Nova Scotia on the Canadian teen sci-fi horror Kids vs. Aliens, which reunites Hobo with a Shotgun director Jason Eisener and writer John Davies.
The film also re-teams Eisener (pictured, centre) with V/H/S U.S. franchise producer Brad Miska, founder of horror genre website Bloody Disgusting, who is producing alongside Josh Goldbloom of Cinepocalypse Productions.
The story follows two warring siblings as they band together when aliens attack during a teen house party.
For Eisener, the film hits close to home — literally.
“Kids vs Aliens is inspired by my childhood nightmares and obsessions,” said Eisener, in a news release. “Hopefully my parents will forgive me for using their house as our main location.”
The film is produced by Marc Tetreault and Jason Levangie of Halifax-based Shut Up & Colour Pictures (Suck It Up, Night Blooms) and Rob Cotterill for Halifax’s Yer Dead Productions (Hobo With a Shotgun).
Executive Producers include Mark Ward, Adam Boorstin and Michael Schreiber for Studio71, and Tom Owen. The filmmaker is repped by agencies CAA and Grandview, and licensed by RLJE Films, with the destination for distribution still to be determined.
The cast includes Dominic Mariche (Are You Afraid Of The Dark?), Calem MacDonald (The Umbrella Academy), and newcomers Phoebe Rex, Asher Grayson, Ben Tector, Emma Vickers and Isaiah Fortune.
It’s the sophomore feature from Eisener of Dartmouth, N.S., whose 2011 thriller Hobo with a Shotgun (Rhombus Media, Whizbang Films, Yer Dead Productions) premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and became a cult hit.
