The ink is drying on Streamland Media’s deal to acquire Toronto headquartered Sim Video International’s post-production business, Sim Post.
The deal, which was financially backed by Trive Capital and Five Crowns Capital has now been finalized, roughly four months after it was first announced.
The acquisition expands Streamland’s picture and sound finishing services in L.A. and Vancouver, as well as setting up its inaugural space in New York City. As per the company, the deal increases Streamland’s overall capabilities to serve creators in the scripted and unscripted spaces.
All Sim Post employees – roughly 60 according to Dun & Bradstreet – will join Streamland’s picture and sound divisions through the acquisition. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We’re excited to welcome Sim Post’s outstanding team into our community,” Streamland Media CEO Bill Romeo said in a release. “This alliance further strengthens our devotion to nurturing creativity and providing clients a true partnership that is unparalleled in post-production. With our globally expanded talent pool and footprint, we remain focused on elevating the services and solutions our collaborators need.”
Sim has undergone significant restructuring over the past year, selling off its lighting/grip and studios divisions to U.S.-based production services provider MBS Equipment Company last March. Looking ahead, it continues to focus on its camera equipment operations.
The deal marks the second big acquisition for Streamland this past year. In January, it also announced the purchase of Technicolor Post, a division of the France-headquartered Technicolor, whose primary business is colour and sound-finishing services. That $36.5 million deal (also backed by Trive and Five Crowns) was finalized in May.
Streamland’s post-production portfolio also includes Picture Shop, Ghost VFX, The Farm Group, Vancouver-based Finalé Post, Formosa Group and Picture Head. Company headquarters remain in L.A., with multiple other worldwide locations throughout the U.S., Europe and the U.K.
