Global has cemented its summer schedule with the returns of the fifth and final season of Private Eyes, season two of Nurses and a bevy of new original series and reality TV.
On the first official day of summer – June 21 – the sophomore season of the original Global medical drama Nurses scrubs in for 10 episodes (9 p.m.), while on July 7, the fifth and swansong season of Private Eyes starring Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson begins its conclusive run at a special time, 9:30 p.m. (9 p.m. weekly thereafter.)
Noting Private Eyes‘ worldwide public significance, Troy Reeb, executive VP, broadcast networks, Corus Entertainment hailed the private detective show as “five seasons and 60 episodes of exceptional storytelling and an undeniably talented cast.”
In addition to being a consistent ratings driver for Global, the eOne and Piller/Segan-produced series has also been top seller for international rights holder eOne for the past five years.
Produced by ICF Films and eOne in association with Corus Entertainment, this season’s Nurses cast sees regulars Tiera Skovbye, Natasha Calis, Jordan Johnson-Hinds, Sandy Sidhu and Donald Maclean Jr. joined by Rachel Ancheril, Jordan Connor, Katie Uhlman and Humberly Gonzalez.
The same night as Private Eyes rolls out its final season opener the return of Big Brother precedes the private detective duo with a special 90-minute kickoff to its 23rd season, once again hosted by Julie Chen Moonves and produced by Fly On The Wall Entertainment in association with Endemol Shine North America.
Beginning July 11, Global viewers will get a weekly triple fix of the elimination series on Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m.
The first new program that premieres on June 24 – three days after the summer solstice – is the Helen Mirren-hosted wildlife comedy series When Nature Calls. A one-hour unscripted comedy series produced for ABC by BBC Studios’ Los Angeles production arm, When Nature Calls looks at the lighter side of the natural world, the program features guest comedians putting words into the mouths of animals, birds and reptiles.
The rebooted drama Fantasy Island makes dreams come true on Global on Aug. 10. Starring Roselyn Sanchez (Devious Maids) as Elena Roarke, a descendant of the original series’ Mr. Roarke (Ricardo Montalban), Kiara Barnes (The Bold and the Beautiful) and John Gabriel Rodriquez (Miranda’s Rights) complete the lead cast of a series based on an island where fantasies can be realized for the right price. The original Fantasy Island ran on ABC from 1977 to 1984: this updated version is coproduced by Sony Pictures Television, Gemstone Studios, and Fox Entertainment.
