Tim Dowler-Coltman, Brenna Coates to star in freshman feature Burden

Burden is written, directed and produced by Ethan Hickey and marks the young director's feature film debut.

Cameras will roll next month on Burden, the debut feature from 19-year-old director Ethan Hickey, starring Tim Dowler-Coltman (Hector) and Kim Coates’ daughter Brenna Coates (pictured).

Based on Hickey’s two short films of the same name, Burden follows a recovering alcoholic who begins a relationship with the ex-girlfriend of a man he killed in a drunk driving accident. Principal photography is scheduled to begin on May 30 in London, ON.

The feature is produced by Hickey under his banner 5 Star Idiot Productions and Michael James Regan of Backlash Pictures (Under DuressKitty Mammas).

Additional cast members include  Janet Porter (Regression), Kevin Bundy (Flashpoint), Simon Webster (When Hope Calls) and Eric Fleising (Stupid For You), who will reprise his role from the first short film.

CBC previously acquired the original short films for its Canada Reflections indie short showcase.

Hickey penned the script as a student at London’s Western University and has been writing, directing and producing short films since 2014.
