Winnipeg-based production company Black Watch Entertainment has hired filmmaker Nicholas Treeshin as head of scripted production and development.
Treeshin leads development on the company’s scripted projects with plans to bring them to the global market. He has more than a decade of experience in the industry as a director, writer, producer, actor and editor, working in both scripted and unscripted genres. His feature film Thunderbird had its world premiere at the 2019 Whistler Film Festival.
The company’s slate includes multiple projects for film and TV, including two MOW thrillers, a family drama series, a police procedural, a serialized workplace comedy and drama about a “uniquely Canadian institution,” according to Treeshin.
“We could not be more thrilled to welcome such a talented executive to our dynamic group at Black Watch,” said Meghan Duffy, owner and president of Black Watch Entertainment, in a statement. “We have been growing since launching in 2010, and we have big things on the horizon. We can’t wait to continue that growth with Nicholas as an instrumental part of our executive team.”
The new slate is Black Watch Entertainment’s first expansion into scripted. The company has produced unscripted lifestyle series such as Meghan’s Menu and worked as a service producer for Hallmark.
“Our goal is to tell compelling stories with unique character voices, create work for local cast and crew, and to strengthen our partnerships with broadcasters and distribution globally,” said Treeshin in a statement to Playback Daily. “This past year presented us with the opportunity to focus more on development and relationship building, and we can’t wait to go out with our new slate this year.”
