Vancouver-based Big Time Decent Productions, Matt Shewchuk’s recently launched production outfit, has added Jeffrey Kinnon as its VP of factual.
In the newly created role, unscripted veteran Kinnon will be tasked with shepherding Big Time Decent’s development slate, in addition to forging new relationships with talent and collaborating with the company’s existing partners.
Kinnon joins from Great Pacific Media, where he served as director of development for more than two years before working as a series producer on Great Pacific’s Mud Mountain (Discovery). During his time at the Thunderbird-owned company, he also worked as a series producer on CBC’s High Arctic Haulers.
Prior to that he worked at Vancouver’s Omnifilm Entertainment from 2012 to 2018. During that time, he served as director of factual development, as well as producing Jade Fever (Discovery), which he wrote, directed and co-created.
Of the hire, company founder Shewchuk said Kinnon’s “ability to run difficult productions on location is a great match for us.”
Shewchuk, whose production credits include Rust Valley Restorers, Dog Dudes, Highway Thru Hell and Heavy Rescue: 401, launched Big Time Decent last year with a focus on developing and producing unscripted and scripted series, feature films and digital content. In November, the company announced the hires of industry veteran René Brar as head of development and finance executive Pricilla Hui to oversee business affairs.
The prodco’s first series Backroad Truckers, produced in partnership with Mayhem Entertainment and distributed by Corus Studios, is scheduled to premiere on Corus Entertainment’s HISTORY in winter 2021.
