The feature from Agam Darshi also sees Kim Coates and Deepa Mehta serve as executive producers.

Production is underway on Agam Darshi’s debut feature film Donkeyhead in Regina.

Produced by Kelly Balon and Anand Ramayya from KarmaFilm, the feature film sees Saskatoon native Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy) and filmmaker Deepa Mehta (Funny Boy) serve as executive producers on the family drama/comedy.

Penned by Darshi, who also stars in the project’s lead role, Donkeyhead follows a troubled and reckless writer who moves back into her traditional Sikh family home, caring for her cancer stricken father. When her father’s health takes a turn for the worse, her three successful siblings return home, leading her to face her questionable life choices. Notably, the actor/writer/producer’s credits include starring in Funny Boy and TV series DMZ.

Also starring Coates, the feature’s cast includes Stephen Lobo (Travelers), Sandy Sidhu (Nurses), Huse Madhavji (Schitt’s Creek), Marvin Ishmael (Degrassi: The Next Generation) and Balinder Johal (Beeba Boys).

Set to shoot on location in Regina until Feb. 12, Donkeyhead is expected to be released this fall/winter.

Supported by Telefilm Canada, Creative Saskatchewan, SaskTel Max Equity, the Canada Media Fund as well as B.C. and federal tax credits, the feature will be released theatrically by Toronto-based film distributor levelFILM and broadcast on Super Channel in Canada. The worldwide rights to the title are available.
