Ginger Snaps is coming back.
Toronto’s Copperheart Entertainment has teamed up with London-based BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning Killing Eve producer Sid Gentle Films to bring a high-end TV adaptation of the cult classic to screen.
Executive producers on the project include Clark Peterson, Sid Gentle’s Sally Woodward Gentle and Lee Morris, Copperheart’s Steve Hoban – who served as a producer on all three of the Ginger Snaps films – and John Fawcett, Ginger Snaps co-creator and director and Orphan Black co-creator and executive producer.
Notably, writer Anna Ssemuyaba (pictured) is attached to pen the series and Endeavor Content will handle worldwide sales on the adaptation. Ssemuyaba’s credits include Guerilla, Upload and I Don’t Want to Talk About This.
Written by Fawcett and Karen Walton, Ginger Snaps premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) twenty years ago, following the tale of two sisters, Ginger and Brigette, who are self-imposed outcasts fascinated by the macabre. Things change for the duo when Ginger is infected by a werewolf on the first night of her period – leading to her sister trying to find a way to curb her newfound cravings.
The “quintessential teen horror film,” according to a statement from Lorenzo de Maio, Endeavor Content’s EVP, TV advisory about the news, Ginger Snaps also spawned two sequels: Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed and Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning.
