Vancouver filmmaker Fred Peabody’s investigative documentary The Corporate Coup d’État will have its broadcast debut on Canadian net Super Channel.

Produced by Toronto-based White Pine Pictures, the film investigates President Donald Trump as a “symptom of a broken system” that has put power in the hands of corporations since the Reagan era, highlighting political tensions in Canada, the U.S. and abroad.

The Emmy award-winning director and executive producer tells the stories of citizens struggling in “sacrifice zones,” such as New Jersey and the U.S. Rust Belt, where Trump has found support.

Airing Aug. 23 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, The Corporate Coup d’État features American journalist Chris Hedges, Canadian writer John Ralston Saul, Canadian author Maude Barlow and American philosopher Cornel West.

“Donald Trump is not an anomaly. He is the grotesque visage of a collapsed democracy,” Hedges said in the film. “The creeping corporate coup d’état that began 45 years ago is complete. It has destroyed the lives of tens of millions of Americans no longer able to find work that provides a living wage, cursed to live in chronic poverty.”

The Corporate Coup d’État‘s broadcast premiere follows film festival runs at Hot Docs, Bermuda, Washington, Toronto, Oslo, Amsterdam and others.
