Toronto-based Guru Studio has promoted Jonathan Abraham to VP of sales and business development and hired a former Gusto Worldwide Media exec to support him.
Abraham (pictured, right), who recently joined the company as its senior director of sales and new business development in February 2018, will report to president and executive creative director Frank Falcone. His new position as VP of sales and business development expands his mandate beyond the studio’s content sales, moving him further into the ancillary consumer products business.
Prior to joining Guru last year, Abraham served as director, international sales and acquisitions at Toronto’s Portfolio Entertainment, and as international sales and marketing manager for Zuru in Hong Kong.
In addition to Abraham’s move, Corey Caplan (pictured, left) has joined the Canadian animation studio as its director of international sales.
Reporting to Abraham, Caplan, who recently served as Gusto Worldwide Media’s senior director of international sales, will be responsible for the company’s international content sales as it prepares to unveil new properties later this year. While with Gusto, he worked on expanding the global reach of Gusto’s catalogue, representing the company at various major TV markets.
Caplan has a over a decade of experience working in television distribution. Before his time at Guru and Gusto, the exec worked his way up through Portfolio Entertainment, first as an international sales manager and later as director of international sales.
These changes follow the news that Rachel Marcus has been promoted to VP of creative development at the studio.
