Paris, France-based Mars Films has acquired Xavier Dolan’s first English-language feature for theatrical release in France.

The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, which had its world premiere at TIFF, will be released in March 2019. In Canada, the film is distributed by Les Films Seville, though a release date has yet to be announced.

Dolan’s latest is produced by Montreal’s Lyla Films and Dolan’s Sons of Manual. It was co-written with Jacob Tierney and stars Sarah Gadon, Jacob Tremblay, Jared Keeso and Emily Hampshire in addition to Kit Harrington, Natalie Portman, Ben Schnetzer and Susan Sarandon.

The film follows a young actor who, a decade after the death of a famous TV star, reminisces on the written correspondence he had with him.
