Feature-length musical Strike! set to film in Winnipeg

Cameras are scheduled to roll on the production next week, with Robert Adetuyi set to direct.

shutterstock_clapboardFilming is set to begin next week in Winnipeg on a feature-length musical about the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919.

Produced by Strike! Movie Manitoba Corp and Frantic Films, Strike! is directed by Robert Adetuyi (Stomp the Yard, Bring it On) with a script penned by Danny Schur and Rick Chafe, who also co-wrote the original stage musical together.

Producers on the project are Jeff Peeler and Danny Schur. No distributors have yet boarded the project.

Strike will film in Winnipeg beginning Aug. 20, with production slated to take place throughout September.

The film tells the story of an immigrant couple battling discrimination during Winnipeg’s revolutionary general strike, which shut down the city for six weeks and ended with the imposition of the War Measures Act.
