Global has renewed suspense drama Ransom for a third season.
Created by Combat Hospital‘s David Vainola and The X-Files‘ Frank Spotnitz, the Canada/Hungary treaty copro is produced by Entertainment One (which also holds worldwide rights), Toronto’s Sienna Films, Spotnitz’s Big Light Productions and Budapest-based Korda Studios.
The 13-episode series is set to shoot in Budapest, Hungary in October, and is slated for a 2019 premiere on Global and CBS in the U.S.
Series stars Luke Roberts, Nazneen Contractor, Brandon Jay McLaren and Karen LeBlanc are all set to return. Ransom follows hostage negotiator Eric Beaumont (Roberts) and his team as they’re called in to deal with crisis situations.
Ransom debuted in January 2017, pulling in an average of 715,000 viewers per episode over the course of its first season. The final two episodes of season two aired on June 30, with Numeris reporting episode one averaged 643,000 viewers and episode two averaged 625,000.
The renewal follows Global’s June renewals of Canadian series, Mary Kills People, Private Eyes and Big Brother Canada.
Ransom is produced by Entertainment One, with executive producers Jennifer Kawaja and Julia Sereny of Sienna Films. Daniel Kresmery and György Rajnai of Korda Studios co produce, with Spotnitz and Valerie Pechels and Odile McDonald of Wildcats Productions executive producing.
The series is developed in association with Corus Entertainment, with the participation from the Canada Media Fund, and produced with the financial assistance of the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit.
