Montreal-based Reel One Entertainment is partnering with London, U.K.-based theatre company Chickenshed to adapt Belgian series Tytgat Chocolat (Team Chocolate) for British TV.
The award-winning series, which debuted on Belgian pubcaster VRT last September, tells the story of a man with Down syndrome who travels across Europe to be reunited with the love of his life. The Flemish-language series won the Diversify TV Excellence Awards during Mipcom last year and also won the Prix Europa in 2017 for best European Fiction Series.
Reel One picked up the format rights to the series from European distribution company Wild Bunch TV.
The indie producer/distributor will develop the series with Chickenshed, a theatre company known for working with young actors of all backgrounds and abilities.
Reel One, which has additional offices in London, L.A. and Vancouver, will pitch the series to U.K. broadcasters in the coming weeks.
