Lone Scherfig’s untitled feature sets up in T.O.

Produced by Toronto's Strada Films and Denmark's Creative Alliance, the film stars Jay Baruchel and Bill Nighy.

jay baruchelDirector Lone Scherfig’s new feature is now rolling in Toronto.

The untitled Denmark/Canada copro, previously titled Secrets From the Russian Tea Room, is produced by Scherfig’s Copenhagen-based Creative Alliance and Toronto’s Strada Films. Creative Alliance’s Malene Blenkov produces alongside Sandra Cunningham and Robin Cass of Strada, in coproduction with France’s D’Artagnan, Germany’s Nadcon and Sweden’s Unlimited Stories.

The feature follows a variety of characters who cross paths at a Russian restaurant in the heart of New York City. Production started on March 23 with the film set to shoot in Copenhagen and New York at a later date.

U.K.-based HanWay Films holds the worldwide sales and distribution rights, with financing from Ingenious Media and Apollo Media. Entertainment One will distribute the film in Canada, while SF Studios will distribute in Scandinavia.

The feature stars Bill Nighy (Love Actually), Caleb Landry Jones (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri), Jay Baruchel (Goon), Zoe Kazan (The Big Sick), Tahar Rahim (A Prophet) and Andrea Riseborough (Death of Stalin).

The film is financed with the support of the Danish Film Institute, Telefilm Canada, DR, the Copenhagen Film Fund, the Swedish Film Institute, Film Vast,  SF Studio, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, ARTE Grand Accord/WDR, eOne and the Ingenious Senior Film Fund.
