thank you for playing 3The National Film Board (NFB) is tackling the issue of gambling addiction in Canada in its latest documentary Thank You for Playing, released Dec. 15.

The 20-minute interactive project, created by Andréa Cohen-Boulakia (director), Dominic Desjardins (producer) and Priam Givord (design and interactivity), explores the ways in which games of chance can lead to the development of addictive behaviours.

Produced out of the NFB’s Toronto studio, Thank You for Playing tells the story of three gamblers, who detail their accounts of addiction, as well as interviews with scientists and academics.

Earlier this month, three NFB documentaries were added to Sundance’s shorts program. The projects added to the festival’s lineup were Diane Obomsawin’s I Like Girls, Chintis Lundgren’s Manivald and Eva Cvijanović’s Hedgehog’s Home.
