California-based Gravitas Ventures has picked up Kyle Rideout’s Public Schooled for multiple territories, including the U.S., Australia and South Africa. The deal was announced by London, U.K.-based sales agent Kaleidoscope Film Distribution and L.A.-based XYZ films.
Gravitas will release Public Schooled theatrically in the U.S. in early 2018, and Kaleidoscope Entertainment will release the film in the U.K.
Public Schooled, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, was written by Rideout and Josh Epstein. It was produced by their Vancouver-based prodco Motion 58 Entertainment, and received financing through the CFC Features program and Telefilm.
The comedy follows an awkward teen (played by newcomer Daniel Doheny) who has been home-schooled by his mother (Judy Greer) his entire life. The film was produced by Epstein, with Adam Folk co-producing and CFC Features’ Justine Whyte exec producing.
The deal was negotiated by Josh Spector of Gravitas, Spencer Pollard of Kaleidoscope, and Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films.
