CBC, CTV, Global and Discovery series are all set to compete for the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television’s Golden Screen Awards, which recognize the most-viewed Canadian TV programs.
The awards are given to the top-rated drama, comedy and reality series programs (based on average minute audience data provided by Numeris) in the 2015/2016 broadcast year.
In the TV Drama/Comedy category, seasons nine of two CBC fan favourites will compete: Seven24 Films and Dynamo Films’ Heartland and Shaftesbury’s Murdoch Mysteries are up for the honour. Meanwhile the final season of CTV’s Motive, produced by Lark Production and Foundation Features in association with Bell Media, is up against the fourth season of CTV’s Saving Hope (produced by ICF Films and eOne in association with CTV). The only newcomer to make the list is Corus Entertainment and eOne’s detective series Private Eyes, which is set to return to Global for a second season this spring.
In the Reality Show category, Insight Productions and Proper Television both have two nominees in the running. Insight’s The Amazing Race Canada (CTV) as well its Big Brother Canada (Global) are up against Proper’s long-running Canada’s Worst Driver (Discovery) and Masterchef Canada (CTV). Rounding out the list is CBC’s Dragons’ Den.
The winners will be announced during the Canadian Screen Awards on March 12.
