Veteran children’s programming exec Marie McCann has been named senior director at CBC Kids. McCann held the position on an interim basis following the departure of the Canadian pubcaster’s former content boss, Martin Markle, last August.

In her elevated role, McCann will report to CBC’s executive director of scripted content, Tara Ellis, and will continue to oversee the development and production of all children’s content on the channel.

During her time as interim director, McCann was instrumental in the channel’s winter rebrand from Kids’ CBC to CBC Kids, which included the launch of new interactive interstitial series Studio K.

McCann first worked at Kids’ CBC from 2007 to 2012 as its executive in charge of children’s production. She then served for three years as head of preschool production at pubcaster TVO (Gisele’s Big Backyard).

She rejoined Kids’ CBC early last year, reprising her previous role before assuming the title of interim director.
