Howie Mandel to host 2017 CSAs

The America's Got Talent judge is the latest Canadian comedian to emcee the annual awards show.

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television has named the latest comedian to host its Canadian Screen Awards.

America’s Got Talent judge and former Bobby’s World voice actor Howie Mandel will emcee the 2017 awards ceremony.

Last year, the awards were hosted by comedian Norm MacDonald who suggested a new nickname for the prize: The Candy, in honour of  the late John Candy. Previous comic hosts include Martin Short, who hosted the first and second awards ceremonies, and Andrea Martin, who hosted in 2015.

The “Candies” will once again be broadcast live on CBC. This year’s event takes place March 12 at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto.

The full list of Candies nominees will be announced Jan. 17.
