eOne takes equity stake in L.A.’s Canvas Media

Tied into the agreement is a first-look deal that will see the pair collaborating on the development and production of scripted series.

Entertainment One has made an undisclosed equity investment in L.A.-headquartered digital studio Canvas Media Studios.

Tied into the agreement is a first-look deal that will see eOne collaborating with Canvas on the development and production of scripted series.

Founded by creator Bernie Su and media executive David Tochterman, Canvas is known for producing and developing transmedia scripted projects such as Emmy-nominated fashion series Vanity and the in-development drama Socio.

With eOne’s investment, Canvas said it will be able to pursue a wider range of distribution and co-financing opportunities, as well as being able to look at acquiring third-party content.

The deal marks eOne’s second significant investment in the second half of 2016, after the company completed its purchase of Toronto-based digital content studio Secret Location in August, acquiring the remaining 50% of the company.
