The Canadian Film Centre and the Slaight Family Foundation have announced the participants selected for the fifth year of the The Slaight Music Residency.
Songwriters Aimee Bessada and Rebecca Everett, and composers Spencer Creaghan, Neil Haverty and Chris Reineck will all participate in the nine-month program.
The residency aims to help Canadian songwriters and composers learn the business side of creating for film and TV, with a goal of increasing the Canadian music used in the entertainment industry.
The part-time program is chaired by Oscar-nominated composer Mychael Danna and Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter Marc Jordan. The program began Sept. 26 and runs until June 30, 2017.
Past participants include composer duo Joseph Murray and Lodewijk Vos of Menalon (2014), who together have scored one series, 14 short films and eight feature films, including Guidance (2014) and The Lockpicker (2016), as well as singer-songwriter Adaline (2013), who wrote a song with fellow alumnus Todor Kobakov for the season two finale of Bitten and recently wrote a song for Below Her Mouth, which this year premiered at TIFF.
The Slaight Music Residency is supported by the Slaight Family Foundation, the Government of Ontario, the Screen Composers Guild of Canada and the Songwriters Association of Canada.
