Ten Canadians have been named to the 2016 Producers Lab Toronto, with Aiken Heart Films founder Coral Aiken and Gearshift Films producer Borga Dorter among the participants in the coproduction platform.
Now in its seventh year, the program is organized by European Film Promotion (EFP) in collaboration with the OMDC and TIFF, and brings together producers from Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Over the course of three days during TIFF, participants discuss ideas for projects, financing and coproduction opportunities.
Also named to the program are Katie Bird Nolan (Babe Nation Creations), Tara Boire (Boomerang films), Tim Doiron (Wango Films), Nicole Hilliard-Forde (Motel Pictures), Kim McCraw (Micro_scope), Thomas Michael (Fella Films), Paul Scherzer (Six Island Productions) and Glen Wood (Viddywell Films).
Among the previous coproductions to come out of the program are Canada/Ireland copro Unless, which is produced by Sienna Films and Irish prodco Subotica. The feature film went into production in March 2015.
A number of projects with coproduction potential will also be presented during the Producers Lab. French producer Hélène Cases will present The Mercy Seat (with Alix Delaporte attached to direct), while Germany’s Amir Hamz will present the project Immortality.
The Producers Lab Toronto runs from Sept. 6 to 9 and is financially supported by Creative Europe – Media Programme in association with Screen Australia, the New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC), Eurimages, Telefilm Canada and the participating EFP member organizations.
