German commercial broadcaster Kabel Eins has acquired the format rights to the Canadian home design format Love It or List It from London, U.K.-based sales house Beyond Distribution.
The series will premiere in Germany this month across the channel’s primetime slot and will be produced by Germany’s Imago TV Film- und Fernsehproduktion.
The sale marks the latest in a wave of format deals for the series, which was originally commissioned by Corus Entertainment’s W Network in 2008 and is produced by Toronto’s Big Coat Productions.
U.K. pubcaster Channel 4 signed a deal to remake the format in 2014 and further format rights have been optioned by Fremantle Belgium, Elk Productions Sweden and Mastiff Entertainment Norway.
The Love It or List It format sees a realtor and home designer competing against one another to convince homeowners to either remain in their newly redesigned home or relocate to a different house scouted by the real estate agent.
In May, W Network launched Love It spin-off Love It or List It Vacation Homes, and season four of Love It or List it Vancouver is set to air on W this fall.
The deal with Kabel Eins, which is owned by ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland, was negotiated by Sam Partner, VP of sales for German-speaking Europe, Scandinavia and Benelux at Beyond Distribution; and Joachim Drees, VP of rights at ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland.
