For its season 10 debut, Heartland is heading to the big screen.
The television series, Canada’s longest-running hour-long drama, will premiere on Oct. 1 at the Calgary International Film Festival’s Showcase Alberta: Celebrating a Decade of Heartland event.
The event marks the first time the festival has featured a television premiere. It’s also the kick-off for CIFF’s newly announced annual Showcase Alberta program, which celebrates the Alberta film and TV industry.
According to CIFF, Heartland, which is filmed in Alberta, has contributed $200 million to the province’s economy.
For fans who won’t be in Calgary, the series premiere, which was directed by Bruce McDonald and written by Heather Conkie, will air on CBC on Oct. 2.
Heartland is produced by Seven24 Films and Dynamo Films, in association with the CBC.
Showcase Alberta: Celebrating a Decade of Heartland will take place Saturday Oct. 1 at Flames Central in Calgary. Heartland stars Amber Marshall, Shaun Johnston, Graham Wardle, Alisha Newton and Spartan the horse are all expected to attend.
