The initiative aims to support the development of emerging TV scriptwriters in British Columbia.

The program will provide B.C. production companies with funding to cover the costs of hiring B.C.-based TV drama writers. Interns on the program will be mentored by senior industry professionals and get the chance to participate in story meetings, contribute to script re-writes and write a minimum of one spec script for the series they are working on.

“As the third-largest full-service motion picture production centre in North America, we have a tremendous opportunity to embed more of our own storytellers into this thriving provincial industry,” said Creative BC CEO Prem Gill in a statement.

The program is open now, with submissions being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget for fiscal 2016-17 has been reached. The applications for the internship must be jointly submitted by the writer/intern and the production company that will be mentoring them.
