Tricon and Lupus team up on new toon

Tricon Kids & Family and Lupus Films are in development on My Big Red Head, a new animated comedy from the BAFTA-winning writing team of James Lamont and Jon Foster.

Tricon Kids & Family has formed a partnership with UK-based studio Lupus Films (The Hive) to develop My Big Red Head, a new animated comedy for eight- to 12-year-olds. Disney EMEA is on-board for development with the potential of becoming a co-producer when the series moves into full production.

The 52 x 11-minute series from the BAFTA-winning writing duo of James Lamont and Jon Foster (The Amazing Adventures of Gumball, Cuckoo, Paddington) follows the the comedic adventures of the Mayhems, a seemingly normal American family from Greensville, Pennsylvania, except that auto repair shop owner Dad (Bub) is actually a monster and second in line to lead “The Realm of Eternal Chaos.” More mayhem ensues as Bub’s three school-age children must try to fit in to their social circles as half-human, half-monster hybrids.

Tricon EVP of kids, family and animation Frank Saperstein, along with the company’s president Andrea Gorfolova, are executive producing the series, with Lupus Films’ Camilla Deakin and Ruth Fielding serving as producers.

Directing duties will be handled by Miklos Weigert (The Amazing World of Gumball, LEGO NEXO Knights, The Eagle), and global distribution and rights will be managed by Tricon International.

The development project comes on the heels of Disney XD US picking up Tricon’s new toon Counterfeit Cat, which will debut later this month.
