New animated series Counterfeit Cat from Tricon Kids & Family and Wildseed Kids has been picked up by Disney XD in the U.S.

The comedy comprised of 52 x 11-minute episodes and 11 x two-minute shorts was commissioned by Disney XD EMEA and Teletoon last year. It will bow stateside on June 20 via Disney XD and its multiple platforms.

The series follows the adventures of Max and Gark. While Max is a real cat, Gark is a small blue alien in a purple cat costume. When Gark crashes his spaceship into Max’s laundry room, he forms an unconventional friendship with his newfound feline friend.

The series is a true cross-continental collaboration. Pre-production took place at Wildseed’s Bristol-based studio, with animation production handled by Atomic Cartoons in Vancouver.

Toronto-based Tricon, which handles global distribution and rights management for the brand, recently launched an official Counterfeit Cat website, and further online expansion plans are underway.
