Epic Pictures Group has acquired the international sales rights to The Possibility of Fireflies, a new feature from Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida’s prodco ARC49 Entertainment.
Epic’s CEO Patrick Ewald and co-founder Shaked Berenson made the announcement today from Cannes.
The film, which is produced by Amy Green, Kreviazuk and Maida, will be directed by Canadian Deborah Chow. Chow’s debut The High Cost of Living won the Best Canadian First Feature at TIFF in 2010.
Based on the novel by Dominique Paul, Fireflies follows a teenager (Joey King) who dreams of becoming a writer, but who must first deal with her self-destructive mother (Courtney Love).
Kreviazuk and Maida will also partner with producer and composer BT to produce the soundtrack for the film.
The film will be shot in Canada and production will begin in 2016. UTA Independent Film Group will handle domestic rights.
