DHX Media has ordered a second season of Fresh TV’s teen series Backstage, with 30 new episodes set to go into production in Toronto this summer.
Season two of the 30-minute series is expected air on DHX’s Family Channel in 2017.
The series was initially commissioned by DHX and season one went into production in July 2015, with the first season later being sold to Disney Channel in 15 territories (including the U.S., U.K., Latin America, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Nordics, Benelux, Germany and Australia).
Backstage was created and developed by Fresh TV in association with DHX Television. Executive producers are Brian Irving, who also serves as producer; Jennifer Pertsch, also the co-creator and a writer; Lara Azzopardi, the series’ co-creator, show runner, writer and director; Tom McGillis and George Elliott.
Season one of Backstage currently airs on Family Channel at 7 p.m. on Fridays. The series stars Josh Bogert, Aviva Mongillo and Mckenzie Small as a group of teens who experience the high and lows of attending Keaton School of the Arts.
