Paris-based Technicolor has inked a broadcast deal with CBBC for the family-friendly underwater adventure series The Deep from co-producers DHX Media and A Stark Production.

The 26 x half-hour CGI-animated series based on the popular Gestalt Comics graphic novel series from bestselling author Tom Taylor (Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, Star Wars: Blood Ties) will premiere on the BBC kids channel this month in the U.K.

Taylor is the co-creator of the show, and its art director is the novel’s illustrator James Brouwer (Justice League Beyond).

The Deep follows the adventures of a family of underwater explorers, the Nektons, which lives aboard a state-of-the-art submarine that explores the deepest recesses of the Earth’s oceans.

Broadcast partners for the series already include Seven Network and ABC3 (Australia), Super RTL (Germany), Ketnet (Belgium), NRK (Norway), SVT (Sweden), YLE (Finland), and Family CHRGD (Canada).

As the underlying rights holder to the series, Technicolor is overseeing the program’s rollout and brand licensing extensions, while DHX Media is handling global distribution, excluding Australia and New Zealand, which falls under A Stark.
