Kids will soon get their own shot at singing stardom in French Canada with the announcement that TVA is bringing the junior version of hit show La Voix to screens.
La Voix Junior will be open to contestants aged seven to 14. It will be hosted by popular Quebec personality Charles Lafortune, who also currently co-hosts La Voix.
Auditions for the show will begin during spring break across six regions of Quebec. La Voix Junior will hit airwaves in the fall.
In addition to announcing the coming of La Voix Junior, TVA has also confirmed a fifth season of La Voix will be coming next winter. Both series are produced by Productions Déferlentes and La Voix Télévision; previously, La Voix was produced by Julie Snyder’s Productions J, but the company exited TV production last year following a dispute over tax credit allocation. Productions Déferlentes is run by ex-Productions J exec Benoit Clermont.
La Voix is an audience behemoth in Quebec, with season four earning 59% audience share and an average audience of 2.8 million viewers in its Sunday night timeslot, according to Numeris numbers provided by TVA. The “junior” trend follows reality series like MasterChef Junior, which targets a co-viewing audience via kid-friendly content. MasterChef Junior rated well in Canada last fall, regularly appearing in Numeris’ TV Top 30.
