Canada’s Smartest Person format sold overseas

Media Headquarters is proving that smart people do indeed go far, selling its factual entertainment format into four territories.

Electus has sold the format rights to factual entertainment series Canada’s Smartest Person into four territories, including to Fremantle in France and Portugal.

The show format, created by Toronto producer Media Headquarters, has also been licensed to Constantin Entertainment in Germany and an additional deal has been agreed that will see 16 episodes of the format produced by Argentinian broadcaster El Trece.

Electus took the international rights to the show in 2012 and last year licensed the format to Turkey’s TRT and Sera Film.

Canada’s Smartest Person is created and executive produced by Robert Cohen and was originally broadcast on CBC. The show is produced by Media Headquarters in association with CBC.

Media Headquarters pacted with U.S. producers Electus and Barracuda Television Productions to make a U.S. adaptation of the show.
