Deals: Gusto, CBC, Lionsgate, Marina Cordoni

CBC has acquired natural history series David Attenborough's Great Barrier Reef (pictured), plus more deals of the week.

CBC has acquired the natural history miniseries David Attenborough’s Great Barrier Reef (4 x 60 minutes) from eOne, which handles the global rights to the property (excluding U.K., Australia and New Zealand). The miniseries will be broadcast on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. on CBC-TV starting Jan. 28. Repeats will then air on CBC’s doc channel from Jan. 31, with an exclusive behind-the-scenes show on the making of the series also set to air on the channel on Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. David Attenborough’s Great Barrier Reef is produced by Atlantic Productions.

Gusto has sold its original cooking challenge series A is for Apple (30 x 30 minutes) to UMAX in South Korea. The 4K-only channel launched in 2014 and is owned by South Korea’s Cable TV VOD Corporation (also known as Homechoice). The show sees three young chefs improvise recipes inspired by the alphabet. Gusto also recently sold its One World Kitchen series into 21 Arabic countries via a deal with Dubai-based Fatafeat TV.

Marina Cordoni Entertainment (MCE)
MCE will represent the world sales rights of Daniel O’Connor’s latest feature Look Again. The film was penned by O’Connor, who also serves as producer along with Connie Contardi. Executive producers are Joe Rosenberg and Nicholas Tabarrok. Look Again stars Anand Rajaram, Christian Potenza, Daryyl Dinn, Brittany Allen and Joel Keller.

DHX Brands
DHX Brands has added five U.K. consumer products licensees for its kids property Teletubbies. Among the new licensees are Kokomo (health and beauty products), HTI (Teletubbies-themed toys), Bladez (inflatable toys), Misirli (socks) and Whitehouse (amusements, including socks). The products from this new group of licensees are expected to launch in the U.K. market in fall 2016. DHX Brands has also renewed its master toy deal with Golden Bear for In the Night Garden,  a 100 x 30-minute kids series produced by Ragdoll Productions. The agreement renewal is for an additional five years and covers the U.K. and Ireland. Read more about that deal here.

Lionsgate
Lionsgate has signed a long-term production and distribution agreement with L.A.-based producer/distributor New Regency that will see Lionsgate distribute both new releases and library titles (including The RevenantThe Big ShortBirdman and Gone Girl) to TV and digital platforms. The deal, announced at NATPE, will also see the two studios partner to co-create scripted TV series.
