Vancouver-based Odyssey Media has announced a joint venture with New York-based 26 Studios to co-create and produce a slate of digital films and TV series.
26 Studios is a division of 26 Entertainment, which represents YouTube stars such as Bart Baker and Nash Grier (who have 7.3 million and 4.6 million YouTube subscribers, respectively), as well as Hayes Grier, Aaron Carpenter and Twan Kuyper. The studio is known for its digital movie releases, including The Outfield (starring Nash Grier and Dallas) and Expelled.
Odyssey Media did not expand on the specifics of the deal, but said the company is expanding into digital media and has a number of projects in the works with 26 Studios, ranging from digital films to television.
The deal will also see Odyssey CEO Kirk Shaw joining the board of directors for 26 Studios, while 26’s co-founder Steven Spiegel joins the advisory board at Odyssey.
Odyssey most recently inked a four-picture deal worth €11 million (around $15.8M CAD) with Belgian production company Living Stone.
Last year the company made two high-level appointments, making Suraj Gohill president in September after former Syfy executive Karen O’Hara was named executive in charge of U.S. East Coast production and development.
