Breakthrough inks three-pic deal with Reel Deal Guys

The Toronto producer and distributor also acquired the global distribution rights to RDG's Adam's Testament as part of the agreement.

adam's testament 2Breakthrough Entertainment has acquired the global rights to faith-based drama Adam’s Testament from Reel Deal Guys Entertainment (RDG), as part of a three-picture production and distribution agreement.

The deal with the Toronto prodco – which covers theatrical, broadcast, home entertainment, digital sales and distribution – will see Breakthrough handle the worldwide distribution of Testament while also coproducing and distributing the remaining two films (drama The Find and festive feature Holiday Miracle) in the agreement.

The deal was born at AFM last fall when Rafael Kalamat and Jason Barbeck of RDG met with Breakthrough partners Nat Abraham and Michael McGuigan. Breakthrough was interested in RDG because its faith-based focus dovetailed with the prodco’s existing family focus, Abraham told Playback Daily.

“People are not seeing enough of this type of programming out there. And from what I’m being told by buyers, there’s not enough content out there to satisfy the needs of this audience,” he said.

He noted the scenario provides an ideal beta test in the market.

“We’re using this in a sense to gauge the appeal international for this kind of content, which I believe is strong,” he added.

Adam’s Testament was filmed in Toronto in June 2015 and stars Luke Bilyk (Degrassi: The Next Generation) in the lead. The story is set in a world inhabited by angels and demons disguised as humans, and sees Adam’s faith tested as a dark stranger descends upon Toronto.
