Confucius Was a Foodie picked up by Nat Geo People

The first season of the culinary docu-series was picked up by Nat Geo People for Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Nat Geo People in Asia, Africa and the Middle East has acquired season one of Confucius Was a Foodie as production continues in Europe and Asia on the second season of the culinary docu-series.

Chinese-language broadcaster New Tang Dynasty Television Canada (NTD Canada) has also increased its order from six to seven hour-long episodes for the new season.

Produced by Toronto’s Mark Media (formerly known as Lucent Media Production) and distributed by Picture Box, filming on the second season has been ongoing since September, when production began in Asia (Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong) before moving to Europe (France, Italy, Greece and the U.K.). The first season, initially greenlit in October 2014, was shot solely in North America. Next month, the production team will return to Asia for its final filming stint, with episodes expected to air in fall 2016.

Whereas the first season focused on North American takes on Chinese food, the second looks at how Chinese cuisine has influenced approaches to food in Asia and Europe. Christine Cushing returns to host the second season and is joined by guests such as celebrity baker Anna Olson.

Mark Media has also created a VR component for the series’ second season, in which scenes such as Confucius’ birthday celebration in a Taiwanese temple will be featured in 360 video.

Confucius Was a Foodie is written and directed by Theresa Kowall-Shipp (Recipe to Riches) and is executive produced by Mark Media CEO Jason Loftus. The show is co-created by Kowall-Shipp and Loftus and funded by NTD Canada and the CMF.
