Bell Media’s BravoFACT has distributed $434,165 across 10 projects through its short documentary funding stream BravoFACTUAL.

Narrowed down from 67 applicants in total, the 10-doc lineup includes Kacey Cox’s The Crown, which tells the story of Anastasia Lin in the aftermath of her 2015 Miss World Canada win, Christine Nielsen’s Peggy Su, the story of a new Canadian looking to make a life for herself in Toronto, and Louie Palu’s exploration of the frontlines of the war in Ukraine, Road Through War.

BravoFACTUAL funding is capped at $50,000 per project.

Nimisha Mukerji and Lindsay George’s hunting doc The Hunted, Nava Rastegar and Michele Hozer’s comic book-inspired The Barber of Augusta, Jono Nemethy and Scott Dobson’s Fix and Release, a look at fresh water turtles suffering from physical trauma, and Garry Tutte and Alan Poon’s Nests of Gold were also selected to receive a share of the funding, which has seen the BravoFACT foundation distribute $2.3 million in 2015.

In the previous round, in June 2015, Nadine Pequeneza’s How to Recruit a Terrorist, David Ridgen’s Derby and Kevin Fraser’s Invading Giants were among the successful projects.

The other short doc projects chosen were Graham Colby and Matthew Johnston’s Road to Kona: The Lionel Sanders Story, Ryan Noth and Tess Girard’s The Road to Webequie and George Flak and Caitlin Starowicz’s The Vikings.
