The Ireland/Canada coproduction Room has received three 2016 Golden Globe nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Drama, while Irish actor Saoirse Ronan picked up a nomination for her performance in the Ireland/UK/Canada copro Brooklyn.
Room is up against Carol, Mad Max: Fury Road, Spotlight and the Alberta-shot The Revenant in the Best Motion Picture – Drama category.
Emma Donoghue also received a nod for her work on Room in the Best Screenplay category for a feature film. The Irish-Canadian writer was born in Dublin and currently lives in London, ON. Room is based on her award-winning novel by the same name, which was published in 2010.
Room‘s third nomination was in the best actress in a feature film category for American Brie Larson’s performance in the film. Ronan received a nomination in the same category for her performance in Brooklyn.
Room is directed by Lenny Abrahamson, with No Trace Camping producing in association with Duperele Film. Brooklyn is directed by John Crowley and produced by Wildgaze Films, Finola Dwyer Productions, Item 7 and Paraelle Films. Room is distribution by Elevation Pictures in Canada, while Mongrel Media has the Canadian distribution rights for Brooklyn.
The 73rd annual Golden Globes gala will be held on Jan. 10.
